Beginnings, A Toddler Program

Beginnings, a Toddler Program and Nursery School strives to create a nurturing and stimulating environment grounded in respect for children and the ways that they learn.  With a strong belief in children’s innate curiosity and desire to challenge themselves, we are committed to promoting children’s sense of competence, creativity and awareness of others.  We believe that a supportive community of peers, parents and teachers is essential to children’s development as individuals and members of a group.

History

In October 1983, Beginnings originated as a playgroup of five toddlers that was held in the East Village apartment of Sheila Wolper, founding director.  The following year, the program moved to its present location on East 16th Street, where we currently work with over 200 children, ranging from 18 months to five years of age, and their families.  Throughout its evolution, Beginnings has been committed to maintaining the sense of warmth and attention to children that characterized the program from its inception.
