Beginnings Nursery School

Beginnings Nursery School is a community of children, families and teachers committed to learning and growing through a process of research and discovery. We aim to create a nurturing and stimulating environment in which children's curiosity is respected, creativity valued, and collaborations supported. We seek to strengthen our connection to resources in our world, including our community, neighborhood, city, and natural and found materials. Our hope is that during their time at Beginnings and beyond, children will deepen their love of learning, develop a thoughtful awareness of themselves and others, and have the confidence to pursue their passions.

History

In October 1983, Beginnings originated as a playgroup of five toddlers held in the East Village apartment of Sheila Wolper.  The following year, the program moved to its present location on East 16th Street, where we currently work with over 200 children, ranging from 18 months to five years of age, and their families.  Throughout its evolution, Beginnings has been committed to maintaining the sense of warmth and attention to children that characterized the program from its inception.
